不过，《加油！好男儿》并不是宋晓波参加的第一档节目，早在2003年的时候，宋晓波报名残疾舞蹈艺术比赛，就取得过很不错的成绩。之后的《上海先生》、《全民摘星大行动》、《雅虎搜星比赛》也让宋晓波备受关注。再之后才是《加油！好男儿》的广受欢迎。

2006年，《加油！好男儿》的比赛结束后，宋晓波出版个人写真集《天使的声音》，销量突破百万册，他的人气毋庸置疑。

2016年，宋晓波完成一次重要的转型。他自导自演聋哑人话剧《我们的世界》，以听障群体为背景，帮助大家更好认识听障人士。
