范平安十三年前居住在万江乡，整日游手好闲，吃喝嫖赌，欠下不少债，他向朋友借钱未果便起了杀心，作案后潜逃到老家，投奔远方表姑，并认识了现在的妻子，后来，范平安和妻子逃到南滨，学习做小笼包。

后来，范平安因为跟陈大力积怨已久，就将陈大力一家杀害，尸骸被他埋在迎都饭店后院，林浩在饭店寻找线索时发现尸骸，原来范平安在杀人后，把碱撒在尸体上，这样可以掩盖尸体的气味。在吴叔的帮助下，林浩终于查出范平安就是从万江潜逃的杀人犯周家国，最后范平安受到法律制裁。
